Tawau murder case: Another Esscom cop charged


KOTA KINABALU: Another policeman with Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) has been charged with the murder of ehailing driver Nurman Bakaratu in Tawau.

John Kennedy Sanggah, 44, who was previously granted bail as prosecution witness for the case in February, was charged at the Tawau Magistrate’s Court for the same case on Tuesday (April 11).

No plea was recorded when his charges were read out before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Mohd Yunus, who later set July 7 for next mention.

Based on the charge sheet, John Kennedy together with six others, were accused of reaching a common intention to kill Nurman, 61, at an oil palm plantation near Jalan Anjur Juara, Jalan Apas, Batu 5, here between 7.30pm and 11.30pm on Jan 13.

Esscom intelligence chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Mat Zaki Md Zain, 58, was among six policemen charged with abetting the murder of Nurman on Feb 8.

The five others - acting Asst Supt Rosdi Rastam, 44; Sjn-Mejar Dennis Anat Enit, 44; Sjn-Mejar Fabian anak Rungam, 43; Sjn-Mejar Khairul Azman Bakar, 47; Lance Corporal Mohd Azlan Sakaran, 39 and civilian Vivian Fabian, 34, - were charged with reaching a common intention to kill Nurman.

Vivian is John Kennedy’s wife.

In another court, Magistrate Leona Dominic Mojiliu also set July 7 as the next mention date for Rosdi, Dennis, Fabian, Khairul Azman, Mohd Azlan and Vivian.

All these policemen have been removed from their positions.

On Jan 28, the suspects were arrested in connection with the killing of Nurman, whose body was found among the bushes on Jan 16.

On Jan 30, the victim’s ex-wife Nurima Juli, 33, who is unemployed, was charged with the murder in an oil palm plantation near Jalan Anjur Juara, Jalan Apas, Batu 5, Tawau, between 7.30pm and 9pm on Jan 13.
