Wee: MCA will continue to be the people’s voice

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA will continue to defend people’s rights and hold the government accountable for its policies, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong. The MCA president said the party’s MPs would continue to be the people’s voice in Parliament and fight for their well-being.

“We will defend what we believe is right and good for the people,” he said during a breaking of fast event with 30 Muslim media representatives at the party’s headquarters in Ampang.

He also vowed to fight for his party as well as the people’s welfare as MCA’s president.

Dr Wee also responded to criticism of his recent trip to China, saying that he did not use public funds and was merely trying to improve bilateral relations.

Commenting on Umno’s plan to seek an audience with the King to present a memorandum asking for former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to be pardoned, Dr Wee said it was a constitutional right for a person serving a sentence to apply for a royal pardon.

Also present at the event were Johor state exco member and Yong Peng assemblyman Ling Tian Soon, MCA vice-president Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker, publicity bureau chairman Chan Quin Er, committee member Tan Gim Tuan and Youth legal bureau chief Ryan Ho.

Najib, 69, is currently serving a 12-year jail term at the Kajang prison.

He previously sought to overturn a decision by a Federal Court panel led by Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat on Aug 23, 2022.

However, on March 31, the Federal Court delivered a 4-1 majority decision, dismissing Najib’s bid for leave to review his conviction and sentence in the RM42mil SRC International Sdn Bhd case.
