GEORGE TOWN: Thirty-two underprivileged boys had the joy of getting new baju Melayu for Hari Raya when a women entrepreneur NGO stepped forward to share the festive cheer with them.

Members from WomenBizSense took them shopping at Mydin Wholesale Emporium in Penang Road.

Due to a lack of transportation, eight of the boys, aged four to six, along with their three guardians, went shopping for all 32 boys in Pusat Jagaan Kasih Abadi.

The children were each given a set of baju Melayu, complete with a sampin waistcloth, worth more than RM100.

They also received stationery and green raya packets.

WomenBizSense chairman Tebby Tan Ting Ting said the programme was part of the association’s annual corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.

“We have several CSR programmes, and this is one of them,” she said adding that the festive gifts were contributed by the association and its members.

“It is one of the ways for us to share the joy of Hari Raya with the underprivileged and needy community,” she said.

The programme is also supported by the Indian Muslim Community Organisation Malaysia, a local NGO that also provided the boys with T-shirts.

WomenBizSense is aimed at connecting women of different ages and backgrounds to learn from and share with each other as they grow their businesses.

Pusat Jagaan Kasih Abadi representative Rosnah Abu Bakar expressed gratitude.

“We are thankful that these underprivileged children are still remembered by the public. At least they can feel the joy of Hari Raya like other children,” she said.
