Educators urged to promote responsible use of AI tools

PETALING JAYA: There should be guidelines on using ChatGPT by university students to ensure responsible use, says ChatGPT Malaysia founder Pang Sern Yong.

“ChatGPT has immense potential for enhancing students’ learning experiences. But responsible usage and guidelines are essential to mitigate the risks of misuse, such as cheating,” he said.

He said educators could play a crucial role by guiding students on how to use ChatGPT.

However, he said it is important for the academic community to become familiar with the technology to ensure its responsible use by students.

“Responsible integration of the use of AI technology can benefit both students and educators here in the long run,” he said.

Pang, from Kuala Lumpur, said that AI technology is evolving rapidly and the nation should not be left behind.

“Successful adoption of ChatGPT and AI in Malaysia can contribute to the country’s transformation into an innovative, developed nation.

“It will help foster an intelligent workforce that incorporates AI tools like ChatGPT into students’ education,” he said.

Since setting up ChatGPT Malaysia on Facebook in February, he said almost 8,000 Malaysians had joined the group and 10 webinars had since been held to create awareness of the latest AI.

He said one of the sessions drew on the experiences of the use of ChatGPT by university students.

Pang plans to launch a book, ChatGPT – A Guide for Introverts, written entirely by an AI tool next month.
