Man detained in Temerloh for allegedly insulting royalty


KUALA LUMPUR: A 42-year-old man has been detained in Temerloh, Pahang, for allegedly insulting the royal institution on social media.

Police secretary Deputy Comm Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin said the suspect was detained on Wednesday (April 12).

"We will request for a remand on Thursday (April 13) at the Kuala Lumpur central lock-up," she said in a statement on Wednesday.

The case is being investigated by Bukit Aman CID Special Investigation Unit (USJT) under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, she said.

"We advise the public to respect the royal institution.

"Stern action will be taken against those issuing statements insulting royalty," he said.
