Missing soldier found dead in Belum Forest Reserve


IPOH: The soldier who went missing in the Belum Forest Reserve in Gerik on Friday (April 7) has been found dead.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the body was found by search and rescue personnel at about 10.15am on Wednesday (April 12).

“Yes, we've found him.

"The full report is being finalised together with the Malaysian Armed Forces,” he said when contacted.

On Monday (April 10), the soldier – a member of the 25th Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment from the Sri Bentong camp in Pahang – was reported to have gone missing while on duty in the forest reserve.

Comm Mohd Yusri said a post-mortem will be conducted at Hospital Gerik.

“He is expected to be buried at his hometown in Penaga, Penang,” he added.
