PETALING JAYA: Prasarana Malaysia Bhd will implement a new key performance index (KPI) system and monthly updates will be posted on social media, says Anthony Loke.
The Transport Minister said the KPI system will also take into account mean kilometres between failures (MKBF) to assess train stability and services.
The KPI announcements will be made public on Prasarana's social media accounts and news platforms monthly starting in May.
He said at present, the MKBF is only disclosed to the ministry but now the public will be able to know if MRT and LRT had experienced any issues.
"Any technical issue or delay beyond five minutes affects the MKBF, which at present stands at 150,000km.
The target for MKBF is 1,000,000km by 2026," he told the press on Tuesday (april 12) after attending a Prasarana buka puasa event with its staff at the Lembah Subang Depot.
In addition, Loke said there would be weekly reports on maintenance of facilities, ride factor, ridership, escalators and lifts.
He added through the disclosure and updates, the public would be informed about the services and would also ensure Prasarana continues to improve the reliability of trains.
"A higher MKBF means services are better, which is an indication on how we can improve ourselves.
"Through this, our maintenance culture and philosophy will be transformed. In the past, what we used to do were corrective measures until a failure occurred. But now, it will follow a regime depending on which parts need to be changed based on its life cycle," he said.
He also said the Kelana Jaya LRT line would receive new trains in August. At the event, Loke displayed pictures of what appeared to be new six-car trains.
