Man nabbed over arson in front of mall


KUALA LUMPUR: A 34-year-old man has been detained in connection with suspected arson that destroyed 13 motorcycles and four electric scooters in front of a popular mall here on Thursday.

Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Noor Dellhan Yahaya said the suspect was arrested within a few hours of the incident and he has been remanded until April 19

“We also seized various items including a motorcycle, a helmet, several pieces of clothing, a pair of gloves and a lighter.”

The police are still investigating the motive, he said.

“We have received 10 police reports lodged over the incident.”

A Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said that in the 3.45pm incident, a total of 15 firefighters with three fire engines from Tun Razak and Keramat rushed to the scene.

“Upon arrival, we found that nine motorcycles and four electric scooters were completely burned, while four other motorcycles were burned between three per cent and 20%,” he said.

According to the spokesman, the fire was brought under control at 4.04pm and there were no casualties.
