Manhunt mounted for three suspects in gang robbery at Tenom Immigration office

KOTA KINABALU: A manhunt has been mounted for three suspects involved in a gang robbery that injured a security guard at the Tenom Immigration office recently.

Tenom OCPD Deputy Supt Hasan Majid said according to the 29-year-old victim, he was patrolling around the office when he bumped into two masked strangers, early Thursday (April 13).

“One of the suspects was believed to have attacked the victim using a sharp object, likely a saw,” he said in a statement Saturday (April 15).

He said the victim, a local, had tried to fend off the attack by putting his hands up and hurting himself in the incident.

DSP Hasan said the suspects later tied the guard’s hands, before breaking into the office and raiding it.

He said after taking some items believed to be two handphones, a bunch of car keys and passport documents, the duo fled in a waiting vehicle.

“The security guard later reached into his pockets and called his wife, informed her about the incident and asked for help,” he said.

DSP Hasan said the victim who hurt his left palm is being treated at a nearby district hospital.

He said a manhunt was mounted for the suspects whose identities have yet to be ascertained.

This case is investigated under gang robbery, and upon conviction, the offenders could face imprisonment of up to 20 years, fined or caned, he said.

“Anyone with information about this case is urged to contact Tenom investigating officer Insp Mohd Nouraizam Salleh at 013-886 0569 or go to the nearest police station,” said DSP Hasan.
