Minister will cooperate if called up by MACC

IPOH: Anti-graft officers have yet to call him up for questioning in relation to a case involving the recruitment of foreign workers, says V. Sivakumar (pic).

The Human Resources Minister said he and his ministry’s officials were ready to cooperate with the authorities.

“If I am called, I am willing to present myself and give a statement. So far, the MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) has yet to summon me,” he told reporters after an event in conjunction with the Tamil New Year.

Sivakumar said the MACC was just carrying out its duty and responsibilities over the probe.

“In principle, I support the implementation of the law based on justice and truth,” he added.

So far, two of the minister’s officers have been arrested by the MACC – one on Wednesday and the other on Friday.

The minister’s aide, believed to be holding the post of private secretary, was summoned to the MACC headquarters for her statement to be recorded. The aide was arrested early Friday.

Investigators have obtained an order for the officer to be remanded until tomorrow.

On Wednesday, a senior officer along with a businessman were detained in connection with the case.

The senior officer was believed to be a former leader in the state DAP Socialist Youth.

The two suspects, aged between 40 and 50, were picked up at the KLIA around 1am upon their arrival from Bangkok, Thailand.

They were also remanded until tomorrow to assist in the investigation.

Former human resources minister M. Kulasegaran said Sivakumar’s aide, who had been detained, did not work under him when he was holding the post in 2018.

The Ipoh Barat MP said the aide had only worked for him from 2006 to 2008.

“I employed him to do my parliamentary work.

“During the period, I found that he was not compatible in my pursuit to serve the people, so he was removed from the position,” he said in a statement.

Kulasegaran said he had requested a Chinese daily to issue a correction on the matter yesterday.

The Chinese daily had reported that the aide had served Kulasegaran when he was the minister five years ago.
