Terengganu Health Dept issues 222 compound notices to Ramadan bazaar traders

KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu Health Department has issued a total of 222 compound notices against food traders at Ramadan bazaars statewide, from the first day of Ramadan until April 14.

State Local Government, Housing, Health and Environment Committee chairman, Datuk Dr Alias Razak, said that compound notices totalling RM24,800 involve various offences, including not wearing an apron, not maintaining personal hygiene and not attending food handler training as required.

He said that other offences include employing food handlers without training and typhoid injections, and others which violate the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009 and the Food Act 1983 (Act 281).

"A total of 3,431 inspections were conducted at 57 Ramadan bazaar locations statewide.

"The most number of offences are not wearing an apron, which is 113 notices, and not maintaining personal hygiene, with 49 notices,” he said at a press conference here Sunday (April 16).

Meanwhile, Dr Alias also reminded traders to comply with the ban on the operation of Aidilfitri bazaars on the eve of Syawal, for cleaning up purposes.

According to him, the ban also includes night market operations, to ensure that the state is clean during Aidilfitri.

"Our enforcement team will carry out monitoring to ensure that these rules are followed,” he said.

He said that the decision was also to give the 2,224 public cleaning workers in the state a chance to get enough rest, after having to work from day to night throughout Ramadan. - Bernama
