Three wanted for breaking into Tenom Immigration office


KOTA KINABALU: A manhunt has been mounted for three suspects allegedly involved in a gang robbery at the Tenom Immigration office recently.

A security guard on duty was injured in the 1.11am incident on Thursday, in which items such as passports, handphones and car keys were believed to have been stolen.

Tenom OCPD Deputy Supt Hasan Majid said according to the 29-year-old guard, he was on patrol when he bumped into two strangers, both of whom were masked.

“One of the suspects attacked the victim using a sharp object, likely a saw. He was hurt defending himself,” he said in a statement yesterday.

DSP Hasan said the suspects tied up the victim’s hands before breaking into the office.

They ransacked the place and took off with some items, he said.

DSP Hasan said after the two suspects fled in a waiting vehicle, the victim, with his hands still tied, reached into his pocket for his handphone and called the wife, informing her of the robbery.He added that a manhunt was mounted for the three suspects whose identities have yet to be ascertained.

This case is being investigated under gang robbery in which upon conviction, the offender could face imprisonment of up to 20 years, a fine or whipping, he said.
