Two construction workers nabbed over assault of Korean during protest in KK


KOTA KINABALU: Police have arrested two construction workers believed to be involved in the assault of a Korean man during a protest at the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park here.

Kota Kinabalu OCPD Asst Comm Zaidi Abdullah said the duo were nabbed not long after the victim, a 53-year-old, lodged a report about Saturday's (April 15) incident.

“We received a report from the man at around 12.40pm on Sunday (April 16),” he said in a statement.

He said following the attack, the victim sustained bruises on his face and other parts of his body.

“The victim received outpatient treatment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital,” said ACP Zaidi.

He said they opened investigations under rioting and two men were subsequently nabbed.

“We are still searching for two more suspects,” he said.

ACP Zaidi said the incident occurred following dissatisfaction among workers who have yet to receive their salary.

They were supposed to get their wages on April 5 but it was delayed. The workers are expected to be paid by Monday (April 17) or Tuesday (April 18).
