Over 1,000 prisoners get to go home this Raya, says Anwar

PUTRAJAYA: In conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri, the Prisons Department will implement the Ihsan Madani Prisoners' Release on Licence (OBB) programme (Awaited Return), says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said this would give Muslim prisoners an opportunity to celebrate Aidilfitri with their beloved families and allow non-Muslim inmates to strengthen family ties.

"This OBB release is implemented throughout the Malaysian prisons institution involving more than 1,000 prisoners in the months of Ramadan and Syawal," he said at a press conference here on Tuesday (April 18).

Anwar also made other announcements on Tuesday, including an additional public holiday for Hari Raya, four days of toll-free travel in highways nationwide over the festive period and a chance to settle all police summonses issued before 2023 at a special RM50 rate each for a period of one month. – Bernama
