Special cement prices for developers involved in building affordable housing, says Anwar

PUTRAJAYA: Developers involved in the construction of affordable housing will soon be offered cement at affordable prices, says the Prime Minister.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the government is working with the Cement and Concrete Association of Malaysia to realise this initiative.

He said this effort is focused on affordable houses that are priced at RM300,000 and below.

“This will benefit those in the B40 and M40 categories with a reduction in house prices of up to RM5,000 depending on the types and price of houses,” he said at a press conference on Tuesday (April 18).

The Prime Minister said the reduced cement prices, which is a private sector initiative, will involve RM120mil.

It is expected to be sufficient for the construction of 24,000 units of affordable homes.

Anwar said that the Local Government Development Minister would give details of this initiative.
