SUNGAI PETANI: Kedah Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) expect to resolve the distribution of seats for the coming state election after the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration, says Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.

The state Umno liaison committee chairman said discussions would start soon.

"We are having 'ice breaking' among BN and PH leaders at the divisional level, where they sit together at the same table and see what our preparations are like and then decide on who will contest where," he told a press conference here on Monday (April 17).

Earlier, he attended the 2023 Unity Round Table Conference which was attended by the BN and PH leaders at the state and divisional levels.

It was held to allow the leaders to get to know each other and to strengthen cooperation in preparation for the state election.

Meanwhile, Kedah PH chairman Datuk Mahfuz Omar said he hoped the distribution of seats could be resolved before the Kedah Unity Convention to be held on May 20.

He said following the round table conference, BN and PH will form a Unity Leadership Council at the parliamentary or divisional level to determine the course of action to face the state election.

Mahfuz said after the distribution of seats had been resolved, BN and PH will decide on a mentri besar candidate to be used as a "poster boy" for the election.

"The MB candidate will be discussed after we have settled the distribution of seats," he said. - Bernama
