KUALA LUMPUR: Director-actor Syamsul Yusof and his first wife Puteri Sarah have failed to reach an agreement to divorce amicably at the Syariah Lower Court here.
Syariah lawyer Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader, representing Puteri Sarah, informed syariah judge Akmalluddin Ilyas on Tuesday (April 18) that both parties (Puteri Sarah and Syamsul) had discussed the terms of the settlement, but had failed to reach an agreement.

"Efforts to resolve their problem have not been successful.
"Therefore, I request that the court read the report of the Conciliation Committee involving both parties before taking appropriate action,” said Akberdin, who also requested that the proceedings continue with the appointment of hakam (an arbitrator).
The court had set Tuesday for Syamsul, whose full name is Mohd Shamsul Md Yusof, 39, to pronounce the talak (divorce proclamation) on Puteri Sarah, 38, whose full name is Puteri Sarah Liyana Megat Kamaruddin, after the couple reached an agreement to dissolve their marriage amicably and peacefully.
Meanwhile, syariah lawyer Azmi Mohd Rais, representing Syamsul, confirmed that efforts to resolve the case were not successful after the draft agreement submitted to Puteri Sarah in the previous proceedings was amended by the actress.
According to him, Puteri Sarah had made several changes to the draft, among which she still wanted to proceed with the civil suit against Syamsul’s second wife Ira Kazar or Faghira Fatini and her family.
"Puteri Sarah also demanded a high mutaah (compensation) amount and some other assets which my client did not agree to,” said the lawyer.

On Akberdin’s request to continue the proceedings by means of hakam, Azmi said they objected because the Conciliation Committee session was carried out separately.
"Puteri Sarah refused to meet Syamsul and his representatives and she admitted it through her TikTok account.
"The committee session should have been held for both husband and wife to reconcile, but that did not happen.
"I suggest that the session be held again because we are not satisfied with how it was conducted. Yang Arif (the judge) has the authority to dismiss the previous committee and appoint a new one,” he said.
On the claim that the committee proceeding was incomplete and defective, Akberdin said Syamsul's legal team was not able to decide that.
"My learned colleague was not present, and neither was I. So he cannot come to that conclusion about the proceeding," he said.
The court then set May 25 for the head of the committee to inform it of what transpired in its proceeding.
Syamsul and Puteri Sarah were married on March 8, 2014 and have two children, Syaikhul Islam, six, and Sumayyah, four.
Rumours of a marital rift surfaced four years ago but Puteri Sarah has never talked about it.
In January, Syamsul revealed his relationship with Ira Kazar and admitted he had married her in Thailand.
Puteri Sarah then filed for divorce from Syamsul on Jan 16 through legal firm Akberdin and Co.
When met after Tuesday's court proceedings, Puteri Sarah said her legal action against Ira Kazar would go on despite Syamsul's request that she drop it.
She said she also did not agree to Syamsul's request to reduce child support by 30%.
"Today, he suddenly asked for a 'discount'. I won't budge, I'm willing to fight for the sake of my children. I am not looking for matrimonial property, what I'm asking is only for the children," she said. – Bernama
