Wooden house in Ranau swept away by overflowing river


KOTA KINABALU: A wooden house in a Ranau village was swept away by the strong current from a nearby overflowing river on Monday (April 17) night.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department, the emergency call was received at 10.10pm on Monday, alerting it to the incident in Kampung Paus there.

However, no casualties were recorded, said a department spokesman.

“The non-permanent structure erected near the river bank, was swept away by strong currents when the river overflowed from the day before (April 16).

“The team sent to the site conducted inspections to ensure no other safety risks were present and the operation ended at 12.05am (on April 18),” the spokesman added.
