Biker killed on the spot in crash in Pontian


PONTIAN: A motorcyclist died on the spot in an accident involving the victim’s bike and two cars at Jalan Penerok, Kampung Penerok near here.

The Johor Fire and Rescue Department Operation Centre said the incident took place at 9.56pm on Tuesday (April 18).

Eleven firemen from the Pontian Baru Fire and Rescue station were deployed to the accident site.

“A Fire Rescue Tender and an Emergency Medical Response Services (EMRS) vehicle were used in the operation,’’ said Pontian Baru Fire and Rescue station chief Mahadir Mamat in a statement.

He said the incident involved the bike ridden by a 55-year-old man, a Proton Iswara car and a Mitsubishi car.

“The motorcyclist was pronounced dead by the medical team from the Health Department who arrived at the scene,’’ said Mahadir.

He said the driver and the passenger of the Proton Iswara in their 70’s, who were trapped in the car and suffered injuries, were sent to hospital.

Mahadir said a man and a woman in the Mitsubishi car suffered minor injuries and were sent to the nearby clinic by passers-by.

The operation ended at 11.13pm.
