Man goes missing during fishing trip in Johor

PONTIAN: A 36-year-old man has gone missing during a fishing trip on Tuesday (April 18).

He is believed to have gone out to sea from the Air Masin jetty, Kukup near here at 8am.

Pontian Baru Fire and Rescue station chief Mahadir Mamat said a search and rescue operation (SAR) was conducted upon receiving a call on a missing person at 7.39pm.

He said 11 firemen from the station were deployed to the jetty searching for the victim identified as Hairuldin Khalid where he was last seen.

“But he was nowhere to be seen and our team moved to the fisherman village located about 500m from the jetty at 9pm,’’ Mahadir said in a statement.

He said the operation was temporarily stopped following a downpour and will continue on Wednesday (April 18).
