Search is on for missing man after boat capsizes in waters near Semporna

KOTA KINABALU: A search and rescue operation is underway for a man who disappeared at sea following a boat mishap in the waters off Semporna district.

The man whose identity had yet to be ascertained, had been reported missing after the 2pm mishap on Tuesday (April 18).

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Hamsa Isnurdini said according to the report they received, the incident occurred near the Seafest Hotel seafront area.

"According to witnesses, the victim had gone missing under the sea when his boat capsized following the collision," he said in a statement, Wednesday (April 19).

The other person on the other boat was, however, reported safe.

"Our team of search and rescuers were sent to gather more information and to conduct a search operation for the victim," Hamsa said.
