KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu Road Transport Department (JPJ) has mobilised 160 officers and personnel to conduct monitoring during this Aidilfitri festive season.
Its director Zulkarnain Yasin said the group was divided into 21 teams and would focus on accident hotspot locations.
"Based on information from the police, 20 locations in the state have been identified as high-risk or accident-prone. Of the total, 17 involved state roads while three others are on highways,” he told reporters after the state-level Road Safety Campaign walkabout here.
Also present were state secretary Datuk Tengku Farok Husin Tengku Abdul Jalil and Kuala Terengganu district police chief ACP Abd Rahim Md Din.
Elaborating, Zulkarnain said the deployment of officers and personnel at the locations also aims to increase the perception of being caught (POBC) among road users.
In the meantime, he said the department had implemented an operation dubbed Op Raya earlier, starting on April 12, focusing on commercial and heavy vehicles.
"We begin with technical inspections to prevent road accidents involving these types of vehicles.
"We have also inspected buses that will be used during the festive season, and only one offence of broken mirror was detected,” he said. - Bernama
