KUALA LUMPUR: Heavy traffic was reported from the Gombak toll plaza heading towards the east coast as city folk began their balik kampung rush for Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
A Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) spokesman said as of 11am yesterday, the number of vehicles had increased from the day before, with the traffic flow congested up to Genting Sempah, Pahang.
“However, the traffic flow on the East Coast Expressway 1 and 2 is reported to be smooth in both directions,” he told Bernama.
Smooth traffic flow was also reported on two major highways heading north and south – the Sungai Besi toll plaza and the Jalan Duta toll plaza, according to a PLUS Malaysia Berhad spokesman.
However, in a tweet, PLUS said traffic to the north was slow from Slim River to Sungkai, while an accident had been reported at KM301.8 on the northbound lane from Bangi to Kajang.

In PENANG, a check on some of the busier areas such as Penang Road, Transfer Road, the Esplanade and Batu Ferringhi showed a steady stream of traffic near popular food joints and attractions.
Penang Traffic and Public Order Department chief Supt Zafri Zolkapli said there was an increase in the number of vehicles coming into the state, but traffic was smooth and under control.
“People will take the opportunity to spend the Hari Raya holidays here, so we are expecting more vehicles,” he said while reminding motorists to follow all traffic rules to prevent any untoward incident.
On Thursday, state police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said some three million vehicles were expected to be in and out of Penang during the ongoing Ops Selamat 20.
