Man who fell asleep after allegedly raping victim nabbed

IPOH: A labourer who fell asleep after allegedly committing rape was arrested after the victim made a daring escape via the balcony.

In the process, she injured her leg and was rescued by passers-by who found her crying and in trauma at Jalan Kamaruddin Isa.

Police rushed to the scene upon being alerted of the incident and detained the suspect who was sound asleep.

OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hassan said the suspect, 43, was arrested at the victim’s house in Fair Park here on Tuesday at about 9.15am.

“We seized several items, including a pair of scissors, a knife and a crowbar. The suspect tested positive for methamphetamine and was also found to be involved in several drug-related cases,” he said in a statement.

ACP Yahaya said checks showed the suspect had carried out some repair works at the victim’s house previously.

“We believe that the suspect had already targeted the woman before planning his move.

“The 38-year-old victim was sent to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for treatment. She is still traumatised but in a stable condition,” he said, adding that police obtained a seven-day remand order against the man to assist in investigations.
