KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has paid tribute to Sabah's diverse cultures and beliefs, saying this has not prevented the people from living in peace and harmony.
In his Hari Raya greeting, the Sabah Chief Minister said he was proud of such diversity, adding that mutual respect for each other amid the melting pot of faiths and traditions has allowed the state and its people to achieve progress consistently.
"The peace and harmony of our society has opened a wide avenue for us to utilise our own capabilities and bring our families, communities, state and country to a better level.
"With this effort, we will erode all the barriers that can separate us as a Malaysian nation," he added.
Hajiji also urged the people, while welcoming Hari Raya, to reflect on what had taken place over the previous year and strive to do better for future success.
"This is also the time for us to strengthen our relationships with family members, relatives and friends.
"I wish the best for all Malaysians in Sabah in conjunction with this glorious day. Let us take a moment to say a million thanks to the security forces who could not celebrate this occasion in order to serve the country.
"We also express our gratitude to all the front line workers, law enforcement officers and health workers who work tirelessly, to serve and protect our people and country.
"Let us also continue to remember those who are in need and show empathy towards their plight," Hajiji said.
Towards this end, the Chief Minister said Sabah was able to record consistent growth through the implementation of various development programmes throughout the state.
He said the implementation of Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) development plan, for instance, was now on the right track to bring the state and its people forward.
According to him, the SMJ agenda will benefit Sabah, especially the people in rural areas so that they do not miss out on enjoying the fruits of development.
"As a responsible government, we are always committed to ensuring that all planning, policies and programmes run smoothly," Hajiji said.
