Covid-19: Melaka issues health alert over rising cases


MELAKA: The Melaka government has issued a health alert over the spike in Covid-19 cases in the state.

Melaka health, human resources and unity committee chairman Ngwe Hee Sem said one death was recorded this week and there were still four active education clusters.

"The number of new cases from April 9 to 15 stood at 552 cases which or a 0.9% increase compared to 547 cases during the corresponding period last week.

"Positive cases of Covid-19 this year have reached 147,156 cases and based on the seven-day moving average map, 79 cases of infections were recorded in a week while the recovery rate among patients registered 144,188 cases or 98.7% of the total cases reported this year," he said on Friday (April 21).

Ngwe said a total of 1,205 death cases relating to Covid-19 were registered this year and currently there were no patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

He said the state would continue to monitor the situation closely and implement prevention prevent measures to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Ngwe said the state Health Department encouraged the public to continue following health guidelines and avoiding crowded areas.
