PETALING JAYA: As the country celebrates Hari Raya Aidilfitri, the hustle and bustle of some major cities in the Klang Valley started to abate on the eve of the festival.
City dwellers also took the chance of the additional public holiday yesterday to return to their hometowns, leaving city roads almost empty.
With thousands leaving the city earlier, outbound traffic on major highways was also reported to be smooth and under control, according to Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM).
In Johor, traffic was moving smoothly, with no major congestion reported as of noon yesterday, said the state police.
Traffic along the Johor Causeway, the Second Link and the North-South Expressway was moving smoothly.
What would normally take almost an hour to drive from Subang Jaya to Kuala Lumpur, became less than 30 minutes.
“Traffic in the city was so smooth. I don’t have to worry about being stuck on the road, at least for these few days,” said a local named Jimmy, 26.
He also said that shopping malls were deserted as many had left the city for the long weekend.
City-born Ahmad Kamil, 29, who still had to work on the eve of Hari Raya, said it took him a shorter time to reach home after work.
“Usually, it takes 40 minutes to get to my home in Petaling Jaya, but today (yesterday) it was only half an hour,” he said.
