JOHOR BARU: Traffic at the Causeway and Second Link is smooth on the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, says Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat.
He said there was no major congestion reported at the two land crossings on Friday (April 21) night either.
"There isn't any unusually heavy traffic in Johor since last night, including at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine Complex and the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex.
"Traffic flow at the 47 identified hot spots (congestion-prone areas) in the state is also smooth. However, we are expecting some congestion later in the day," he said.
Comm Kamarul Zaman said this when met at his Hari Raya open house at his official residence here on Saturday (April 22).
He added that the police would continue enhancing security measures to ensure public safety during the festive season.
"We have also deployed about 700 traffic policemen to monitor traffic conditions throughout the state, especially at the 47 hot spot and 27 black spot (accident-prone) areas identified," he said.
On April 16, Johor state exco member Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said that traffic is expected to increase on the Causeway by 20% to 30% during Hari Raya.
"To cater to the high traffic volume, 27 car lanes will be open at the Causeway for Immigration clearance for vehicles entering Malaysia and another 29 exit lanes for vehicles. There will also be 50 motorcycle lanes open on both sides during the festive period.
"For pedestrians and bus passengers, 32 manual and auto gate counters will be operational as well," said Mohamad Fazli.
