Senior citizen uses toy gun in attempted robbery, arrested by Ipoh cops


IPOH: A 66-year-old man has been arrested here for trying to rob a mobile phone shop on Jalan Onn Jaafar with a toy gun.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hassan said police received information about the robbery around 4pm on Saturday (April 22).

He said policemen from the Pekan Bharu station rushed to the shop and arrested the suspect.

"They managed to seize several items from him including a backpack, a toy gun and two knives.

"With the arrest, we managed to solve two other cases with the same modus operation reported on March 25 and April 5 around the Pekan Bharu area," he said in a statement on Sunday (April 23).

ACP Yahaya added that the suspect had a criminal record including for drugs.

"He tested positive for morphine. All three cases will be investigated under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code for robbery using a weapon.

"The suspect has been remanded until April 29," he added.

ACP Yahaya thanked the public for cooperating with police to apprehend the suspect.
