KUALA LUMPUR: Actor-producer Boy Iman and three others have been charged with cheating in connection with the sudden cancellation of the Hooray X Fest Raya festival here recently.

Boy Iman, whose real name is Noruliman A Rahman, 43, along with Nor Azmi Jantan, 49, Norazah Sahud and Norzana Rapie @ Rafie, both 51, pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to them in a Magistrate's Court here on Tuesday (April 25).

They are accused of cheating one Siti Wardina Basir over booth or lot rentals for the event, which was supposed to take place at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur, of the sum of RM1,500 at 2.34am on April 19 here.

They were charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating, read together with Section 34 for a criminal act by several persons in furtherance of a common intention, which carries a maximum of 10 years' jail and whipping, as well as a fine, upon conviction.

DPP Noraisyah Mohamed Zanyuin requested bail of RM5,000 for each accused.

Lawyer Mohamad Syakir Mohamad Fawzi, who represented Boy Iman and Nor Azmi, pleaded for a lower amount saying his clients both had families to support.

Counsel Ernest Azad, representing the other two accused, also appealed to the court for a lower bail amount.

Magistrate Noorelynna Hanim Abd Halim then set bail at RM3,000 for each accused with one surety and ordered them to surrender their passports to the court.

The court then set June 13 for next mention. – Bernama
