The man, identified as Maruti Rathode from Uttar Pradesh, India, had met Pendela Varma from Bangalore online. Soon, they began dating.
Pendela was a wannabe social media influencer, who regularly uploaded videos on TikTok.
This had led to arguments between the couple as the videos also included her dancing with other guys.
Maruti had apparently asked Pendela to stop making videos with her male friends but she refused.
A few days ago, Pendela was visiting Maruti at his home when they got into another fight over the videos.
Maruti, who was enraged at her refusal to stop the videos, strangled her to death.
He then took her body to a secluded area and set fire to it.
Later, he tried to kill himself.
His suicide attempt was unsuccessful. He was sent to the hospital by his family members.
