Woman stopped husband at traffic light junction because she was concerned for him, say PD cops

PORT DICKSON: A 33-second video clip which went viral showing a woman trying to block the car driver at a traffic light junction here was actually a wife's desperate attempt to prevent her husband who had just received treatment from driving away.

Port Dickson deputy OCPD Deputy Supt Mustafah Hussin said the 32-year-old woman was concerned after her 58-year-old husband told her earlier that he was heading to their son's house in nearby Teluk Kemang despite just having received treatment.

In the clip, which went viral on Twitter on Sunday, the woman could be seen dangerously trying to stop a car from being driven away at the Batu 1 Jalan Pantai junction.

The woman, clad in a baju kurung, was seen desperately holding on to the bonnet as the car, which was being driven slowly, turned right into Jalan Pantai from PD town.

DSP Mustafah said the couple, who are both Indonesians, went to the district police station here at 4.15pm on Tuesday (April 25) to explain the matter after the clip went viral.

"They told us that they had an argument earlier as the husband told his wife he wanted to go to their son's house in Telok Kemang.

"The wife, worried about her husband's health, disagreed and tried to stop him but he ignored her and drove away," he said.

DSP Mustafah said the wife then sought the help of a neighbour who agreed to take her on his motorcycle to look for her husband.

She said they saw the husband's car at the traffic light junction and the woman tried to stop the vehicle by standing in front of it.

"They have both admitted their mistake and have apologised for endangering their lives as well as that of other road users," he added.
