Hawker association to offer incentives to Sibu eateries with Menu Rahmah

SIBU: Eateries here offering Menu Rahmah will be given incentives in the form of bottled water and either cooking oil or soya sauce, says Sibu Coffeeshops and Restaurant Owners Association chairman Tong Ing Kok.

He said on Wednesday (April 26) that the association is giving out these items on a one-off basis so as to encourage eateries to participate in the program.

"So far there are only two outlets offering this, one in Jalan Blacksmith and the other in Jalan Salim. We want to support this government initiative by providing incentives to food operators," he said.

He said that participating eateries will be given two boxes of 500ml litres of bottled drinking water and either two dozen 330gm bottles of soya sauce or 24 packs of cooking oil.

"The Menu Rahmah will be below RM5 per packet and it comes with a bottle of drinking water. For the operators, they will receive either soya sauce or cooking oil," he explained.

There are more than 700 eateries here, out of which 230 are members of the association.

Tong said they were unsure how long the program would last, but added that his association will continue with the incentives.

"At RM5 or below, the operators can still make a little profit. I am not asking the government to help but it would be good if it could channel between RM20,000 to RM30,000 so that we can make the program last longer," he said.
