Melaka college so run down it resembles a haunted mansion, says its PTA chief

MELAKA: The condition of the Tun Fatimah Form Six College in Durian Daun here is so bad that it resembles a "haunted mansion", says its Parents and Teacher Association (PTA).

Its chairman Mak Chee Kin said students are attending classes there despite its "deplorable and ruinous state".

"Students say it feels eerier than in a horror movie, with windows falling apart and ceilings collapsing suddenly during classes.

"Conditions are just appalling and the poor students have no choice," he said when interviewed here on Wednesday (April 26).

Mak said the college has about 500 students and he claimed that appeals to relevant authorities have fallen on deaf ears.

"I have made several attempts in the past year to get stakeholders to assist and provide a safe and conducive education atmosphere but unfortunately nothing has been done.

"The college is plagued by leaky pipes, dilapidated structures, water supply issues, termite infestation, an unusable basketball court, parking problems and flash floods," he said.

Despite the challenges students face, Mak said the school collectively achieved remarkable results in STPM when it emerged as the number in the STPM examination in 2022.

He said the structure was built in the 1960s and was converted from a secondary school to a Form Six college when the school faced low enrolment.

"But the college, which has 28 classrooms, has been neglected for a long time," he said.

Mak said he hoped that Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek would take notice of the situation and help to improve conditions at the school.
