Civil Defence Force needs people in 100 Sarawak hotspots

SIBU: The Sarawak Civil Defence Force (APM) is in need of people for 100 disaster hotspots.

"We need 10 to 15 people in each hotspot area in the event of disasters such as floods and fires," state director Abdul Wahab Rahim said here on Friday (April 28) after presenting promotion certificates to 57 personnel.

The hotspots are mainly in rural areas, he added.

"Our priority now is to recruit more members in these hotspot areas.

"We will train and equip them with basic needs. This might involve substantial cost but it is good in the long run," he added.

Wahab said with people in these areas, APM could provide immediate aid while awaiting the arrival of other agencies.

He also thanked two local benefactors for their donation of a 150cc motorcycle each to Sibu APM.

"We have been using four-wheel drives in our work but with the two motorcycles, we will be able to upgrade our services in times of emergency," he said.
