No MPs shall quit Barisan, says Zahid

ALOR SETAR: Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pic) has vowed to defend the legitimacy of the unity government by making sure that there will be no MP from Barisan Nasional quitting their respective parties.

Ahmad Zahid said the rumours about MPs wanting to quit Barisan was untrue and should be dismissed as baseless.

"We will defend all our MPs and protect the government led by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim," he said during his speech at 2023 Madani Kedah gathering at Dataran Seagate on Friday (April 28).

Recently a news portal report claimed that 10 MPs, who previously supported Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for prime minister after GE15, were involved in a plot to overthrow the unity government by quitting their seats to force by-elections.

The portal said some Barisan Nasional MPs were being wooed by certain individuals and persuaded to take part in a "do-or-die mission" to sacrifice their seats and quit their respective parties.

MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong had earlier rubbished allegations by a news portal which said he and other Barisan MPs such as Datuk Seri Wee Jeck Seng, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias and Datuk Seri M Saravanan were involved in the plot.

Beside Anwar, Ahmad Zahid was one of the key leaders from the unity government coalition that attended the event.

Others were Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) deputy president Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, state Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Mahfuz Omar, state Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid and other state leaders from the unity government coalition.
