Speak no more of Royal Pardon for Najib, it's up to the King now, says Zahid

PONTIAN: There should not be any more comments on a Royal Pardon for Datuk Seri Najib Razak as the decision is now entirely up to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, says Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Deputy Prime Minister said political parties, especially those in line with Umno and Barisan Nasional, should refrain from commenting on the matter.

"We leave the matter to the King, it is at His Majesty's discretion.

"I do not encourage unnecessary comments from anyone, especially parties that are friends with us," he said after attending the Pontian Umno Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house in Benut here on Friday (April 28).

He was asked to comment on Parti Amanah Negara's appeal to the King and the Pardons Board to reject the application for the former prime minister.

Amanah communications director Khalid Samad had said the party acknowledges and recognises that forgiveness is the absolute right of the King but was of the view that pardoning Najib would send out a bad message to the people about the judicial system and also to the world regarding our attitude and stance towards corruption and misuse of power.
