SEREMBAN: As far as Negri Sembilan goes, beating traffic lights and queue jumping were found to be the most common offences committed during this year’s Ops Hari Raya Aidilfitri from April 18 to 27, said the Negri Sembilan Road Transport Department (JPJ).

State JPJ director Hanif Yusabra Yusof said the offences were detected by the motorcycle enforcement unit with enforcement action cameras (EACs) as well as drones throughout the operation.

Enforcement cameras are installed on the helmets of personnel in the motorcycle enforcement unit.

Hanif Yusabra said there were 529 violations related to running red lights, while 132 were caught queue-jumping through the use of nine EAC units and three drone units.

The additional units were found to be more effective in detecting errant road users, he said.

“During this Hari Raya Aidilfitri ops, 12,243 vehicles were checked and enforcement action had been taken on 1,902 of them for various offences totalling 3,796,” he told Bernama yesterday.

Hanif Yusabra said the state JPJ had also increased enforcement on motorcyclists, adding that 1,528 summonses were issued to motorists after checking 8,025 motorcycles.

In the meantime, some JPJ personnel were assigned as passengers on 32 buses to improve safety on the road.

“There are drivers who break the rules, especially driving continuously on the right lane and driving beyond the speed limit,” he added.
