ALOR SETAR: Hadawiyah Abu Hassan spent a week sewing new Hari Raya outfits for her children and herself, but the family did not wear them on the day of the festival. The mother of four was saving the clothes for another event, which she deemed to be more important.
Yesterday, the family changed into their new attire to attend the Malaysia Madani Open House here, where they met Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“It is not easy to meet the number one leader of the country,” Hadawiyah, 49, told Bernama as she arrived at the event with her four daughters, aged between five and 21.
S. Sivaguru, 48, who travelled all the way from Kulim, which is about 110km away, was all smiles as he attended the open house.
It is difficult for the people in Kedah to go to Putrajaya if the Prime Minister’s open house was only held there, “so it is good to do it in other states too. Everyone here today can eat and enjoy all the dishes,” he said.
Parusina Faizol, 37, who came with her four children, said she and her family came to meet the Prime Minister.
“We are only able to see him on television, so it will be a sweet memory for us if we manage to meet him and take pictures today ... we would be grateful.
“Besides the food, I hope these open houses will continue as they are good and forge closer friendships between all parties,” she added.
