Malaysian VFX wiz goes viral with global icon King

PETALING JAYA: A video featuring Malaysian digital content creator Mohamad Sofian Abdullah and international filmmaker Zach King has chalked up millions of views online, with many lauding the former for making Malaysia proud.

The 20-second clip, which has garnered more than 26 million views on King’s TikTok account, was also uploaded on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.

Mohamad Sofian, who creates impressive visual effects under his online moniker @sofyank96, said the collaboration with King was a gift for his fans after eight years of making such videos on social media.

Describing King as his idol, he said in the caption for the clip: “This is specially made for everyone who has constantly supported our videos.”

In the video, King, acting as a waiter, is seen serving and pouring Mohamad Sofian a cup of coffee when the latter tells him that he had actually ordered a cake.What happens next is a series of visual magic moments as the cup of coffee transforms into cake. As Mohamad Sofian reaches for the menu board, it turns into a napkin.

In the comments section, many expressed pride for Mohamad Sofian, saying “mighty proud of you”, “Malaysia represent”, and “hebat anak Malaysia (Malaysian youth are awesome)”.

Mohamad Sofian, 27, also commented on the video uploaded by King: “Finally, my biggest dream as a content creator of collaborating with you [King] has become a reality, and words cannot describe how happy I am!”

Bernama also reported that King, an American known for his video illusions, had said Mohamad Sofian is his friend from Malaysia, calling him an incredible filmmaker and visual effects (VFX) artist.

“He recently came to Los Angeles to complete a filmmaking challenge that I hosted.

“No spoilers, you should go check it out on my YT channel,” he said, referring to YouTube.

Recently, Mohamad Sofian, who was born in Kelantan, won the Ultimate VFX Challenge: Magic Of The Month competition in Los Angeles.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had described his achievement on the international stage as something the nation could be proud of and should be continued.
