Stop making statements that can affect unity govt ties, says Tok Mat

SEREMBAN: The statement by Amanah communications director Khalid Samad appealing to the King and the Pardons Board to reject the pardon application for Datuk Seri Najib Razak is totally uncalled for, says Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

The Umno deputy president said allies in the unity government should not make statements which can jeopardise ties between them.

"There are bound to be loose cannons in every party. So we do not take such statements into consideration.

"If we want to preserve harmony and good ties, please do not make statements that can have a negative impact on others," he said when met at his Hari Raya open house in Rantau.

He said since Khalid's statement did not come from the party, he did not wish to dwell on it.

Mohamad said he had reminded Barisan Nasional members to refrain from doing so and focus on strengthening the party.

"If all of us (including in the unity government) can do this, then we will become a force to be reckoned with.

"We should not poke our noses into the affairs of others. It is pointless being nosey.

"We should instead worry about our own affairs," he added.

On Friday, Khalid was quoted as saying that although Amanah acknowledged and recognised that forgiveness was the absolute right of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, it was of the view that pardoning Najib would send a bad message to the people, the national justice system and to the world regarding our attitude and stance towards corruption and misuse of power.

He said it will also damage the image of the Malaysia Madani policy brought by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Khalid said Najib should remain incarcerated because of the crimes he has committed.
