PUTRAJAYA: The government will increase civil service salaries if the country continues to record more profits, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
"If we are able to gain more in revenue in one year we will ensure that a pay rise for civil servants is prioritised,” he said during his speech in conjunction with the Labour Day celebration here on Monday (May 1).
The Prime Minister said this will also include bonuses, medical and education incentives.
“I will expedite these incentives in areas where we can take action," said Anwar.
Anwar also announced that the Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) and Congress of Unions of Employees in Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) will be given RM1mil each to improve their administration.
He then added that there are "big fish" which pocketed billions in profit, but are taxed very little.
"Those downstream are taxed more," said Anwar.
