MELAKA: An assemblyman has voiced his concern over the brazen attack of an elderly couple during a robbery at a housing estate here that is already plagued by a series of break-ins.

Klebang assemblyman Datuk Lim Bang Hong said he hopes police can conduct intensive patrols at Taman Pantai Emas in Klebang Besar as well as calling upon the residents to set up a neighbourhood watch committee.

"Residents should also play their role by cooperating with the police and keeping vigilant of any suspicious activities.

"Several break-ins were reported in this housing estate this year alone and the perpetrators are getting more aggressive now to the extent of violently attacking their victims," he said on Monday (May 1).

Lim said residents also hoped more community-policing-related activities would be conducted to foster a better relationship between members of the public and the police.

He said in the incident at 10.45pm on April 29, the couple were about to get out of their car upon reaching their home when two men riding a motorcycle attacked them.

The men assaulted the couple by using a baseball bat and their belongings were also stolen.

He said retiree Gue Boon Guan, 65, lodged a police report at the Batang Tiga police station on the same day.

Lim said Gue's 66-year-old wife, Gan Chui Lan, sustained injuries on her left face during the incident.
