TNB ordered to pay factory worker RM30,000 in counterclaim

KLANG: A factory worker was awarded RM30,000 in a counterclaim by the Magistrate's Court here against Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB).

In the initial suit, TNB had sued Muhammad Eazrie Hafizie Md Aris, after accusing him of meter-tampering, for a sum of RM26, 811.75 allegedly owed for electricity usage.

However, it was eventually disclosed in court that Muhammad Eazrie Hafizie did not have an account with TNB.

The defendant then filed a counterclaim that the suit against him had caused him to suffer from major depressive disorder and anxiety.

Magistrate Nur Atikah Zakaria awarded Muhammad Eazrie Hafizie RM20,000 in general damages, RM5,000 for aggravated damages and RM5,000 in exemplary damages.

She also dismissed TNB's claim of RM26,811.75 with RM5,000 costs.

The decision was delivered in a zoom proceeding on Friday.

Esmael Shah Shahrudin represented Muhammad Eazrie Hafizie while Amelia Edreena Azmir appeared for TNB.
