Two sisters drown in Tanjung Sedili family outing


KOTA TINGGI: Two sisters drowned during a family outing at Pantai Tanjung Buloh, Tanjung Sedili here.

The sisters were with their sibling and mother who suffered injuries in the mishap.

Penawar Fire and Rescue Department operation commander Mohd Khairul Sufian Dahari said the department received a distress call about the incident at 3.39pm on Monday (May 1).

"The victims had been rescued by members of the public before the department personnel arrived at the location.

"The two sisters were pronounced dead at the scene by a medical team," he said in a statement here, adding that the injured victims were given early treatment.

The deceased were identified as Siti Nursalina Johari, 10, and Siti Rabiah Johari, 13, while the victims who survived were sibling Saleha Haron, 27, and their mother Mersidita Yunos, 46.

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Hussin Zamora confirmed the case and said the family of six arrived from Ulu Tiram for a family holiday.

He advised members of the public to be careful and abide by any restriction imposed by the local council and not enter the waters when the red alert flag is put up.
