Ex-cop remanded seven days for armed robbery probe

MELAKA: A remand order has been issued against an ex-policeman by a Magistrate's Court here in connection with an armed robbery at Taman Bukit Cheng.

The seven-day order was issued against the 35-year-old suspect by Magistrate Sharda Shienha Mohd Suleiman on Wednesday (May 3).

The order was to help with an investigation under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang robbery, which provides for imprisonment of up to 20 years and whipping, upon conviction.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said the alleged robbery took place at 12.05am on Saturday (April 29) when a 25-year-old vegetable seller was relieved of his belongings, including RM400 in cash, by two men on a motorcycle.

He said the victim was threatened with a machete by one suspect.

ACP Christopher said detectives managed to track down and detain the suspect on Tuesday (May 2).

He said police also confiscated various items from the suspect including a round of ammunition.

It is learnt the suspect was terminated from the police force in 2016.
