PAS leaders sign Mahathir's 'Malay Proclamation'

PETALING JAYA: Several top PAS leaders have met former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to support his "Malay Proclamation" aimed at uniting the Malays.

The PAS delegation was led by party president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, seen in a photograph signing the document.

It is unclear when exactly the signing took place.

"Several top PAS leaders led by Hadi signed the Malay People's Proclamation in front of Mahathir," Dr Mahathir's aide Abu Bakar Yahya said in a Facebook post on Wednesday (May 3).

Another photograph shared by Abu Bakar shows Terengganu Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan and Bachok MP Syahir Sulaiman at the meeting.

The Malay Proclamation secretariat had previously said its planned rally in March was not political in nature and aimed to discuss issues related to the Malay community.

On March 19, the rally secretariat announced that the programme involving Dr Mahathir faced difficulties in securing a venue and had to be called off.

On March 17, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim issued a stern warning against anyone using race and religion to promote strife.
