Pufferfish poisoning: Final report on couple's death submitted to DPP, says exco member

KLUANG: The concluded report about the recent death of an elderly couple who unknowingly ate pufferfish has been submitted to the deputy public prosecutor’s office, says Johor exco member Ling Tian Soon.

The state health and unity committee chairman said it was now up to the office to decide whether or not to take legal action against anyone.

"The Health Department has done its part of the investigation.

"We will now wait for the deputy public prosecutor for the following actions," he said when asked to comment about the matter.

The elderly couple from Kluang - Ng Chuan Sing @ Eng Kuai Sin, 84, and his wife Lim Siew Guan, 83, - consumed the fish they bought from a trader on March 25, unaware that it was pufferfish.

Lim experienced breathing difficulties after eating the fish for lunch and died on the same evening while Ng suffered from similar symptoms and went into a coma.

He passed away on April 8, shortly after coming out of the coma.

After the tragic incident, the couple’s family have been urging the government to take action against those who sell pufferfish.
