Brickfields couple to be charged with abusing maid following police report lodged by neighbour

KUALA LUMPUR: A man has lodged a police report after suspecting that his neighbours, a married couple, had been beating their maid.

Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Amihizam Abdul Shukor said the report was lodged on April 23.

"Preliminary investigations showed that a 39-year-old foreigner suffered serious injuries. There were burn marks on her body and bruises to her eyes and face. She has been sent for treatment and has been placed in a safe house.

"The victim had been employed for almost one-and-a-half years and claimed she was beaten and slapped constantly and had even been injured with an iron," he said in a statement on Thursday (May 4).

He added that the male suspect is 34 years old and his wife is 33.

The investigation paper has been referred to the Attorney General's Chambers and the duo will be charged on Friday (May 5) at a Kuala Lumpur court.
