PETALING JAYA: PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang (pic) said his meeting and discussion with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was to enhance unity among Malays who formed the majority in the country.

He said Dr Mahathir has vast experience managing the country, with the experience of being prime minister twice.

"Although he has differences with PAS, there were common grounds which need to be taken into account for the sake of religion, race and country in Islam," said Abdul Hadi on Facebook on Thursday (May 4).

"The Malays are disunited because of political differences and many did not come out to vote because they hate politics or found it irrelevant.

"However the non-Malays were united although they had political differences and were strong enough to defeat Malay candidates who were disunited and ready to support anyone.

He said in the last general election, Perikatan Nasional obtained the majority of the Malay votes but it wasn't enough.
